What is
Achvat Amim?

Achvat Amim, which means "solidarity of nations" in Hebrew is a unique five-month movement-building project that directly engages with the reality of the Israeli-Palestinian region through grassroots human rights work and critical education, based on the core value of self-determination for all peoples. Rooted in Jewish values and a desire for a more just world, Achvat Amim offers young activists a way to find their place in the movement for peace, freedom, and equality alongside Israelis and Palestinians.

Achvat Amim is a framework for meaningful volunteer work with educational, community, and human rights organizations, doing grassroots work with Israelis and Palestinians in and around Jerusalem. Participants volunteer in individualized placements, while traveling extensively, and learning with leaders in the field. Together, we build a dynamic learning community in which we explore and shape Jewish culture and identity as individuals and as part of a greater whole.

Achvat Amim focuses on developing practical skills in community building, organizing, and education through immersive volunteer projects and engaging with social change and human rights movements.

We engage with the challenging realities on the ground in Israel and the West Bank and take an active role in building on our rich history and traditions.

Achvat Amim combines participatory learning, outdoor experiences, seminars, and trips around the country with work on real projects with leading human rights and community organizations. Join us in building a future rooted in the Jewish values of tzedek (justice), shalom (peace), tikkun olam (repairing the world) and achvat amim (solidarity of nations).

What do I do all day?

The program is built on three main components - working, learning, and living in Jerusalem.
The volunteer work is centered on individual volunteer placements, which we shape based on the skills and interests of the individual participant and the needs of our partners.
The dynamic learning spaces that we build together include everything from day tours and meetings with experts, activists, and community leaders around the region to discussions and activities in seminar spaces to weekend excursions further from Jerusalem, exploring the realities on the ground in different contexts.
Communal living is a central part of the experience, shaping community life together and learning from the challenges of living and working in a group. Beyond the core Achvat Amim community, participants have time and space to live life in Jerusalem, independently exploring the city's markets, cafes, libraries, music, sports, and of course, people.
