Work

Solidarity Work

The solidarity work is centered on individual volunteer placements, which we shape based on the skills and interests of the individual participant and the needs of our partners on the ground.

Some of the placements have a social and educational focus,  like working in a school or community center doing arts or language-based education and empowerment work; others are physical projects, like working with youth to design and build a community garden; while others are organizing and advocacy focused, working with peace and human rights organization on ongoing projects and campaigns. You will work on projects individually, in small teams, and with the whole Achvat Amim group. The volunteer placements are built so that the work has real positive impact on the people and communities you are working with and on you.

Achvat Amim has partnerships with a wide range of human rights, community, and educational organizations. Our volunteer placements are always changing based on the needs of local communities, and the skills our participants are excited to share.

Work in Different Sectors of Change:
Core Placement Opportunities

*These are examples of successful placement opportunities from last year. If there’s another organization or group you’re interested in working with, or if you have a specific skill or connection, we’re happy to help organize and facilitate a placement that aligns with your interests and skills.
Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR)
Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR) is an Israeli organization founded in 1988, committed to promoting and protecting human rights in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Comprised of rabbis and rabbinical students from across the Jewish spectrum—including Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, and Reconstructionist traditions—RHR is grounded in Jewish values of justice, dignity, and equality.
RHR is offering a structured volunteer placement for one participant in the Fall cohort, supported by a $3,000 scholarship.
Protective Presence:
This initiative involves volunteers being present in communities at risk of settler harassment and violence, such as Masafer Yatta and the Jordan Valley (see Jordan Valley Activists). This might include: Shepherd Accompaniment, Monitoring and documenting incidents of harassment or violence, Contacting authorities, like the police, when necessary.
Hand in Hand Schools
Hand and Hand: Center for Jewish-Arab Education is an organization dedicated to fostering partnership and equality between Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel through a network of integrated, bilingual, and multicultural schools. Established in 1997 with just 50 students, it has expanded to six campuses, serving over 2,000 students from diverse backgrounds. As a volunteer you would assist teachers in English classes and broadly work as a teaching assistant in the school.
This is Not an Ulpan
This is Not an Ulpan is a political education collective that combines Hebrew and Arabic language learning with critical pedagogy and social justice frameworks. The team is deeply engaged in organizing, activism, and educational work that challenges dominant narratives and connects learners to wider struggles. TINAU is happy to welcome an Achvat Amim volunteer to join their team. They offer a wide range of ongoing projects and tasks and are flexible in tailoring the volunteer experience based on the volunteer’s skills, interests, and availability.
+972 Magazine:
+972 Magazine is an independent online publication providing news, analysis, and commentary from Israel and Palestine. It offers in-depth reporting on political developments, human rights issues, and social matters, contributing to a nuanced understanding of the region's complexities. As a volunteer, you would attend weekly editorial meetings and aid with translation of articles from Hebrew to English.
Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP)
The Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP) is a coalition of over 170 civil society organizations working to advance cooperation, equality, and peace between Palestinians and Israelis. Through regional capacity-building and international advocacy, ALLMEP amplifies the voices of grassroots peacebuilders and secures critical resources to support their work.
ALLMEP is offering a structured internship placement with potential scholarship support for a selected Achvat Amim participant. The role provides hands-on experience in policy, advocacy, and strategic communications in a dynamic international nonprofit setting.
Storytelling Project
The Storytelling Project is a grassroots initiative based in the South Hebron Hills (Masafer Yatta), where Palestinian communities face ongoing threats of displacement, settler violence, and state repression. Founded in 2018 at the request of local residents, the project supports Palestinian activists in developing English skills and the craft of storytelling to share their experiences under occupation with international visitors, journalists, and solidarity groups. Volunteers assist with English classes and help participants write articles and shape personal narratives. This is a powerful opportunity to support Palestinian self-advocacy and resistance through language and storytelling, and it pairs well with a placement at +972 Magazine for those interested in media and communication.

If I am not for myself, then who will be for me?
And if I am only for myself, then what am I?
